Eight years into the economic upswing, the labour market has virtually dried up. The most sought after talent in Germany today is staff at managerial and professional level. To boost the interest of young academics through to experienced managers in careers in family businesses, the Foundation partnered with large family-owned enterprises and the Entrepreneurs Club to found the "Family Business Career Day".
Two Career Days have been held this year: On 30 June a Career Day took place at Bürkert Fluid Control Systems (photo) in Ingelfingen, Baden-Württemberg, and a second one was held on 10 November at family firm Schüco International KG in Bielefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia.
50 leading family-owned enterprises from all over Germany showcased their offering as employers at these two events. The number of applications received for the recruiting fairs is testament to the fact that family businesses are the top choice, and not just second-best, for many highly qualified people: up to 3,000 men and women applied for each Career Day. From these, around 600 candidates were selected based on the requirements of the participating companies.
