Working with academia and politics to strengthen Germany’s position as a business location

Dr David Deißner has been Managing Director of the non-profit Foundation for Family Businesses since May 2023.

Before joining the foundation, the doctor of humanities and trained journalist was Vice President Global Public Affairs at Hellofresh SE, where his responsibilities included international government relations for the group, the global market leader in meal kits.

Previously, he was Managing Director of the transatlantic organisation Atlantik-Brücke e.V. for just over five years and was also a member of the Executive Board in this role.

Prior to this, he held various positions at Vodafone and the non-profit Vodafone Foundation. Most recently, he also helped set up the Vodafone Institute for Society and Communication. As the company’s European think tank, the institute works on the potential of future technologies to drive societal change.

Family businesses are powerful drivers of innovation and form the backbone of the German and European economy. In Germany, they make up the majority of companies in the private sector, with a share of 90 per cent. They provide almost 60 per cent of all jobs and strengthen the economy and society with their work. I see it as my mission to raise awareness of the achievements, but also of the many challenges faced by family businesses and to work together with the academic community to improve Germany’s position as a business location,” says Deißner.

His interviews and lectures focus primarily on the following topics:

  • Economic and location policy in Germany

  • Reducing bureaucracy

  • Transatlantic relations

  • International economic and trade relations

  • Digital transformation and internationalisation

  • The shortage of skilled workers
