Since 1 July 2025, Dr Sebastian Benz has been the new Head of Research and Programmes at the Foundation for Family Businesses.

Sebastian Benz brings extensive international experience to the role: after studying economics at the University of Tübingen and earning his doctorate at LMU Munich, he spent nearly a decade at the OECD in Paris. Most recently, as Executive Economist at Lidl, he helped shape the retail group's strategic direction during economically challenging times. His expertise in these roles is evident in his authorship of numerous publications on economic and economic policy topics.

As Head of Research and Programmes, Sebastian Benz will continue to oversee funding for studies and research projects examining the economic conditions and challenges that family businesses face. The foundation plans to increase the proportion of studies with a European focus in the medium term.
