Posted Workers Directive: regulatory confusion prevents equality
In the European Union, all employees should be able to provide their services across national borders and be treated equally in terms of working hours, safety and pay. At least that's what the EU’s Posted Workers Directive stipulates.
But as is so often the case, what sounds good in theory turns out to be difficult in practice. Family businesses, in particular, are exposed to unnecessary and costly regulations in the individual countries, some of which differ greatly – and often go beyond the original EU regulations.
They therefore urgently need harmonisation and simplification. This is the clear result of a study conducted by the Centres for European Policy Network together with Prognos AG. It is volume two of a four-part research project entitled “Bureaucracy costs” by the Foundation for Family Businesses.
